A name?

Most of you agree that changing your name on your birth certificate for marriage is weird. Most women don't go that route.

I forgot to mention: you're allowed under option #4 to create a new name. Jane Smith is marrying John Jones - and they want a new surname. Go for it! It's now Jane & John Allegro ... ideal for two music lovers.

I've never heard of a couple marrying going that route, but it is an option!

(I think there may be an extra step of publicizing the name change in a provincial publication ... but I'm not sure. If you want more information, you can look up the Ontario Gazette, the province of Ontario's government publication.)

Haha, actually the Big Guy keeps suggesting we make up an entirely new last name that combines both of our names that we will both take ... but all the combos sound ridiculous!

Are you changing your name? I can't remember if you've mentioned that or not.

Good to know we have so many options in Ontario! Kinda crazy!

I just commented on the previous post that this is what were doing..well this is what I want to do. We already use our new surname and several friends use it too. It's part of my surname and part his. My thinking is new family = new surname. I'm not changing mine unless he changes his and if neither of us change our children will get the combined new surname.

the combined surname is fun! i know a couple where no one has changed their last names or assumed a last name. however, they do for fun, refer to themselves as the "smithones" for example.

I wanted to do this!! The combinations don't even sound odd with our last names, they are actual last names. But the boy refused. I'm glad there is at least the option...if he ever changes his mind.

We seriously considered combining last names. (Well, Lawrence half considered it, because he is only overjoyed at the thought of me taking his name). But, all of our combo options were awkward. Darn!
