Church

Wade and I "booked" the church last night, and had our first meeting with the minister. We'll be getting married at Glenburnie United Church, with Reverend Don officiating. My parents were married at the church, although it was in a different building. In 1995, the church moved a couple hundred feet down the road into a larger building.

Here's the old church, which has been convered to a private home:

Favourite Bridesmaid Dresses

These are just some of the fun dresses I have found on-line!

I think these dresses are awesome (and I'm quite serious). As odd as the multi-coloured stripes are, the bridesmaids are beautiful and pull it off! The differences lengths does look a little off. But the backdrop is absolutely stunning, and all three look so happy to be there.

Is anyone else wanting to sing, "He was a one-eyed, one-horned, flying, purple, people-eater"? No? Well, I am.

This bride couldn't decide on a colour, so she chose three! After all, why choose?

My personal favourite. These hot pink numbers look like they're made of coloured saran wrap. I remember that stuff. Kind of a weird idea, coloured saran wrap.

Going by the sexy perm hairstyles, I would guess this wedding took place in the mid to late 1980s! So, really, these dresses would have been cutting-edge futuristic.

What great friends, though you can hardly see them through the glare.

Do you have any favourites of these dresses?

Bridal Show

Canada's Bridal Show is held twice a year at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre, in January and again in September. This year's September show will be September 26, 27 & 28. I have no idea if it'll be as good as Ottawa's show (Ottawa's show was really, really good), but I think I'll go!

I'd love to have friends come and have fun with me!

Here's the website: http://www.canadasbridalshow.com/dates.html.

If you can come, let me know. We'll make a week-end out of it. Make sure you have good running shoes on!

Video?

Now that we have the photographer booked, we have to consider videography. I have two friends, Dave & Pam, who incidentally are celebrating their wedding anniversary today. They say the biggest regret from their wedding is that they didn't film their vows.

I seriously considered what Dave & Pam said. Is the ceremony something that I would like to see again? Or can pictures tell the story of the ceremony? I think pictures can certainly tell a story, but they can't capture words. So I think I would like a video made.

So that leaves a few questions. Can we videotape the ceremony ourselves? Maybe, but we'd need a tripod and a reliable microphone. However, one camera might not have the best view, or even might become blocked. We'd probably want more than one camera, but then we'd have to edit the videos. That sounds like too much work, since we don't know how to edit videos!

If we booked a videographer / cinematographer, then we'd have to seriously consider what we want filmed. Obviously, the ceremony is of greatest importance. But what about the speeches/toasts during the dinner? I'd love to be able to review those moments. But, as Wade has rightly pointed out, we really can't spend money on everything we want. Costs range from $250 - $3000 (and up), depending on the duration of coverage and the individual business. We don't have unlimited money, though it'd be nice if we won the next Lotto 6/49!

What do you think? In your opinion, what aspects of the wedding day MUST we have filmed?

Photography

... We have our package chosen. It's a customized package, because none of the packages was exactly what we were looking for. It has less than package 3, but different details than what is available in package 2. We're really happy with this option!

And, of course, given the date, I must say "Happy Canada Day"!

As a random trivia, can you answer these questions on Canada Day:

1) Who was our first prime minister?
2) What does Canada Day commemorate?
3) What part of the Canadian Constitution protects our rights and freedoms?
4) What is the slogan of our constituion?
(a) Liberty, equality, fraternity
(b) Peace, order and good government
(c) Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness
(d) From sea to sea ("A mari usque ad mare")
5) In what year was Confederation? (Bonus if you can name where it occurred)
6) Who is our CURRENT head of state?
7) In what decade of the 20th century were Canadian women first given the right to vote?
8) Which of the following chains is Canadian-owned?
(a) The Hudson's Bay Company ("The Bay")
(b) Laura Secord
(c) The Second Cup
(d) Tim Hortons
9) In what year did the most recent province join Canada?
10) In what year did the most recent territory join Canada? (I hope you didn't say Nunavut was the most recent province to join Canada!)

Write your answers down somewhere, then click on the comments to find out the answers! Bonus if you can answer them all without looking them up on wikipedia! :)

What to post on next?

Planning is going slowly ... But it is going. It is very small steps, and very small details. Given that everything is in very small steps, I don't post on everything.

So tell me, what do you want to see me post on next? Tell me by commenting on this post!

Photographic-ness?

... Wade & I went to visit a photographer duo last night. We were supposed to go on Wednesday, but that didn't work out on my end. So Friday night it was! It was actually very fun, almost like visiting friends (is that weird for the first time we met someone?!).

We heard of this team through friends of ours, Karyn and Bruce Beacock, who got married 3 years ago. Karyn highly recommended their service, and especially loved that there are 2 photographers. The photography duo are a married couple who mostly photograph weddings. Their website is open and transparent, with pricing breakdowns and an FAQ that actually has useful questions.

When we went to meet them, they had samples of albums they have done in the past. They also had a slideshow of different weddings on display. It was nice; they asked us lots of questions about us, in order to get to know us. But it didn't feel intrusive, it was just comfortable.

Photography is a huge expense, but I think that it's worth it to have the pictures. And I do love the albums they produce. So now, we have to decide what package we would like to customize!

1 year from today

Guess what's one year from today ... Can you guess? :)
